HEALTHY KIDS ARE HAPPY KIDS

HEALTHY PROJECTS

FOOD & FUN AFTERSCHOOL

With extensive training in the Food & Fun Afterschool curriculum, OST staff introduced students to the basic food groups, the importance of an exercise routine, and how to make healthy choices with food. Parents are also invited to join the healthy initiative through recipe packets that are given out at the end of each session.

Chef Jose Garces @

Casa del Carmen OST

Casa del Carmen OST welcomed Chef Jose Garces for nutritional education classes held on-site. The project culminated with an extensive tour of his 40-acre organic farm.

KIDS FIT CHALLENGE @

Northeast Family Service Center OST

Funded by a Philadelphia Activites Fund grant, youth were challenged to rate their physical ability and set goals for themselves under the guidance of a certified Physical Trainer. In addition, OST staff was trained in how to plan and facilitate high-level physical activities for youth.

HEALHTY GARDEN @

St. Gabriel's OST

Using the Growing Healthy Habits curriculum, youth planned, planted, and harvested this vegetable garden that is nestled in the courtyard of the convent. With help from families, AmeriCorps volunteers, and teachers, this urban garden bloomed in no time.

COOKING MATTERS @ THE STORE

OST staff lead grocery store tours for students and their families as a way to teach hands-on Nutritional Education. Through influencing families to make better choices when shopping for their groceries, CSS OST Programs spread healthy initiatives into homes across the city of Philadelphia.
