LEARNING S.T.E.M.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education teaches vital skills in problem solving, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking that youth need to compete in future careers. This summer, contributions supported 256 elementary and middle school youth in STEM programming that included PBS Design Squad, 3D Modeling & 3D Printing, and Urban Gardening projects.

DYNAMIC ELITE

Catholic Social Services’  competitive middle school dance team, Dynamic Elite, runs out of DePaul OST. In their first year, the team won 1st place at the JAMFEST cheer and dance competition.

 

HIGH SCHOOL WORK READY

Catholic Social Services, in partnership with the Philadelphia Youth   Network, has connected high school youth with employment opportunities for the past five years. In Summer 2015, 108 youth completed their employment commitments; 20 of which were youth from a probation  rehabilitation program with the City of Philadelphia. The over 10,000 youth who participated in the Work Ready Summer Program were required to develop a community-focused project, and Catholic Social Services youth presented Philly Phindz, an app they   created to help  their peers find safe recreational options in the city. Philly Phindz won 1st place at the Work Ready EXPO, and Catholic  Social Services was awarded funds to further develop the app for the online marketplace.
